What exactly is a ghostwriter? And do I need one?

This service is so the opposite of what you know about being “ghosted.”

Generally, most people who’ve heard the term ghostwriter believe it’s to describe a person who writes in the name of another person without receiving credit – that means no byline on an article, no mention on the cover of a book, nada.

Okay… there’s got to be more than that, right?

Right. Ghostwriting is actually a much more complex practice. As a ghostwriter, I perform a customized, collaborative service, tailored to my client’s needs, objectives, personality, and style.

🖋️ In some scenarios, I’m pretty much left to my own devices, after the client has given me a set of clear directives. Write x number of high-quality, search engine-friendly blog posts that incorporate relevant keywords and phrases, x number of social media posts across specific platforms, that kind of thing.

✍️ In other circumstances, I share the writing with my client. They may provide a collection of work they’ve already put together that needs some finesse or organization, or they may supply the research and original concepts. Then it’s up to me to write, shape the stories, or revamp what needs improvement. As a ghostwriter, I may also act as a coach or accountability partner to my client, helping them develop a concept, capture their genuine voice, and assist them in the management of their project, whether that’s an e-book, an autobiography, a speech, or social media content.

Ghostwriting is not a new concept, but ghostwriters were once merely a luxury, called upon by celebrities wanting to publish memoirs and the like.

Today, ghostwriters are necessary partners, assets to communication leaders, business owners, and individuals who are inspired to share their thoughts and tell their stories. As a ghostwriter, I’m not just a writer – I’m a researcher, editor, mimic, sounding board, and project manager.

And sometimes, especially for individuals who have more work to do than there are hours, I may be the only way to finally bring their stories to life.
